Day 5
Today we had a difference in desires so Pawel and John rode south to
Yosemite at 6:30am into the park with spectacular weather and views of El
Capitan, Half Dome and Yosemite Falls. The park is truly a sight and we loved
the views and fresh air. Not bad traffic and kind drivers pulling off to
let us pass especially Pawel on the K Bike. We bumped into 4 Harley Riders a
Boss Hog and a BMW LT in the park then again at Ebbits Pass and we chatted with
them. Older folks with their wives, 2 from Arkansas 2 from Santa Barbara and 2
from North Carolina and with full gear and safe riders. We see very few sport
bikes but lots of cruisers, RT's, Gold Wings ST1300 etc... We
discussed banning trikes from the US! A truly great day after leaving the park
east up to 9,600 feet, we went down to 395 north then 89 west to Ebbits Pass
8,700 feet and also great scenery and roads. Radek and David decided to do the 3
Sierra passes, we all left at 5:30am after Starbucks and bumped into each other
near N. Lake Tahoe to compare notes at 7:00pm with both of our groups having
close to 350 miles each. John's RT (old girl) is holding her own, 43,000 miles
and the transmission is still going! It has been drinking a bit of oil with the
shifting and high altitudes but that's ok. I must say that in my advanced age on
a old bike I am holding my own. David on the other hand had a loose chain which
I noticed a few days ago but its in bad shape today and needs to get a new one
in the am maybe here in Truckee. Weather has been great but a bit toasty on the
east side of the Sierras. I must say the technical riding has been fun and for
the most part error free but the passes today had few signs for the turns so
alertness was very key.
